Handicapped Scuba Diving

Now anyone can learn to dive.  Divers with physical disabilities and their families can become certified to have FUN while diving safely at beautiful locations.  It's great to explore the underwater world gliding weightless through the water!

HSA Open Water Scuba Diver
This course is the basic H.S.A. entry-level course in SCUBA diving.  It is designed to accommodate  a wide variety of disabilities while maintaining a high level of safe diving practices.  This course combines the PADI Open Water Diver knowledge development materials and the confined water and open water skills standards set forth by HSA.  The course offers 3 levels of certification based on the student diver’s ability to fulfill HSA performance requirements.  The course consists of independent study, a minimum of 8 hours of class, minimum of 10 hours of pool and 5 open water dives conducted over a minimum of 2 days.  The course is performance based, so additional time may be required.  Medical approval from your physician is required.

HSA Junior Open Water
This course is identical to the Open Water Scuba Diver course for youngsters between 10 and 14 years of age. 

HSA Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver
This course is an advanced-level certification offering 3 levels of certification based on the diver’s Open Water Scuba Diver certification.  It combines the PADI Advanced Open Water knowledge development with the standards set forth by H.S.A.  You will complete 5 open water training dives that include:  Deep (minimum 85 ft to maximum 100 ft), Night Dive, Wall or Mid-water Dive, Navigation Dive and Marine Identification Dive.  The open water requirements will be conducted over a weekend at Lake Travis.  Medical approval from your physician is required.

HSA Open Water Dive Buddy
This course is designed to prepare certified Open Water divers to be effective and safe dive buddies for certified H.S.A. divers with a wide variety of disabilities. You must have logged at least 20 dives prior to the course.  Course consists of classroom lectures, a minimum of 6 hours of pool training and 6 open water training dives.

Thursdays and Friday the class will run from 6:30PM to 9:30PM
CW Saturday & Sunday will have a half day pool session and half day classroom

 CW - March 11, 12, 13, 14 (3/13 - 3/14 are pool sessions )
 OW - July 24 & 25 (Clear Springs Scuba Park)

HSA Instructor Training Course

This 3-day program is designed for Divemasters, Assistant Instructors and Instructors from all recreational certification organizations to acquire the knowledge and skills to certify those with physical disabilities to scuba dive.  Upon successful completion, candidates may independently teach or assist with all HSA diver programs.
